In 1996 Christo received his first SLR camera as a birthday gift, and the gift giver recalls that he looked at it quizzically, wondering what to do with it. But his creative eye took on a new role as he looked through the lens of that camera, and soon, he took it with him everywhere he went: deserted beaches at the summer's end, peaceful cemeteries on a snowy day. He captured moments and froze them in time, first just for his own pleasure, and eventually, to share with others.
